Clear guidelines for visiting a botanical garden, working farm landscape, and ecological restoration site.

Policies for a Working Landscape

These policies help protect visitors, plants, wildlife, farm operations, working horticultural areas, historic structures, and ongoing restoration.

Hours & Seasonal Access

  • Open daily from dawn to dusk, May 1–October 31.
  • Closed during the off-season for maintenance and safety.

Parking & Motor Vehicles

  • Motor vehicles are limited to designated parking areas.
  • Do not drive beyond parking areas unless specifically authorized.
  • These limits protect visitor safety and trail and property integrity.

Bicycles & E-Bikes

  • Bicycles and e-bikes are not permitted on Limeledge grounds.
  • This restriction protects visitors, trails, and plantings and preserves a pedestrian-oriented experience.

Trails

  • Remain on marked trails and paths.
  • Expect terrain and trails that may be uneven, rocky, or overgrown.
  • Avoid stepping into understory areas, where foot traffic can damage sensitive plants.

Pets

  • Pets are welcome but must be leashed at all times.
  • Leashes should not exceed 6 feet.
  • Pet waste must be removed and properly disposed of.

Farmland & Crops

  • More than 100 acres remain in agricultural use.
  • Remember that Limeledge remains a working farm landscape.
  • Do not enter crop fields.
  • Do not damage, disturb, or interfere with crops, machinery, or farm equipment.

Quarry Area

  • Use designated paths around the historic farm quarry, a key Limeledge feature.
  • Do not climb on rock piles, overburden debris, or quarry sidewalls.
  • These areas may be unstable and are under restoration.

Caution, Construction & Closed Structures

  • Barns and structures may be closed to the public during renovation or for safety.
  • Areas marked with caution tape, barriers, fencing, or signage are off-limits.
  • Do not remove, cross, or tamper with barriers.

Go Native! Perennials Production Zones

  • Some areas are used by Go Native! Perennials for propagation and seed and plant production.
  • These are working production zones, not general visitor areas.
  • Respect signage, fencing, and restricted access.

Natural Hazards

  • Poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans) is abundant. Stay on trails and be mindful of vegetation.
  • Staghorn sumac (Rhus typhina) is common and should not be confused with poison ivy.
  • Limited areas may contain old machinery, tires, debris, or other restoration-related hazards.
  • Do not touch or approach hazardous debris or equipment.
  • Ticks and insects are common, especially in grassy and wooded areas.
  • Insect repellent and appropriate clothing are encouraged.
  • Check yourself and pets for ticks after visiting.

Stewardship & Conduct

Help protect the place you came to enjoy

  • Leave no trace. Pack out all trash, belongings, and pet waste.
  • Do not pick or collect plants, seeds, rocks, labels, or collection material without permission.
  • Respect wildlife and avoid disturbing nests, burrows, or animals.
  • Smoking, vaping, alcohol, and controlled substances are prohibited.
  • Motorized recreational vehicles, drones, and amplified sound devices are not permitted without prior approval.
  • Children must be supervised at all times.

Group Visits, Events & Photography

  • Large group visits, educational programs, weddings, and photography sessions must be scheduled in advance.
  • Commercial or professional photography requires prior permission.
